Hypnosis

Harinder Toor is an accredited member and is registered with the General Hypnotherapy Register.

Hypnosis is a natural holistic energy therapy. Every one enters into hypnotic states many times a day. Listening to music, songs and religious chants are some of the many examples of entering a hypnotic state. Hypnosis is not relaxation but it creates a deeply relaxed state in which mental stress and bodily tension are reduced. This facilitates the working together of the client and the therapist to enhance mental, physical and emotional well being through the agreed approach. There are no side effects of hypnosis apart from good ones.

Hypnosis has been used in medicine over centuries to treat a wide range of physical, psychological and emotional disorders. The healing of emotional traumas can be accelerated with hypnotherapy. However, people should not visit a hypnotherapist if they suffer from psychotic illness such as schizophrenia or are under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Hypnotherapy is used for the management of pain, stress reduction, stimulation of the body’s immune system and strengthening the functions of certain body organs. Hypnotherapy is a method of healing through opening, clearing, cleansing and re-balancing ones energy system.

Some examples of the areas that hypnotherapy can help are

  • Phobias

  • Anxiety

  • Obsession

  • Stress related symptoms

  • Insomnia

  • Smoking

  • Self-development

  • Pain control

  • Stuttering

  • Sports performance

  • Confidence building

  • Relaxation

  • Exams and tests

Method

During the hypnosis session the client is allowed to relax in an armchair or couch and is then guided into a state of deep physical and mental relaxation. While in hypnosis, the client is generally aware of their surroundings and can choose to come out of hypnosis at any time. Hypnosis does not open the mind to external ‘bad things’ or any thing that a person does not want there. The unconscious mind always guards the conscious self against invasion. It rejects anything that does not accord with the values it currently holds. The re-education of the unconscious to overcome earlier self-defeating messages is called hypnosis. Hypnotherapy may be used on its own or it may be integrated with any of the psychological therapeutic methods/approaches termed as hypno-psychotherapy.
