Counselling

The word counselling has many meanings. The counselling concerned here is the type used by social work agencies, therapists and other care professionals. The counselling within this context refers to the process which facilitates meaningful dialogue between the therapist and client to enhance awareness and understanding of self.

This understanding of self and ones environment is then used to establish clarification of goals and values for future behaviour.

In other words, counselling for me as a therapist, is a process through which I help a troubled person to feel and behave in a more personally satisfying manner.

The counselling provides the individual with a direct personal means of

coming to terms and dealing with a whole variety of problems.

For effective counselling it is important to have privacy, confidence, open and relevant communication, between counsellor and client. For this reason, lotuscare pays special care to try and provide counselling in the client’s language with special regard to knowledge and understanding of individuals culture, custom, dietary habits and beliefs
